Last november we booked a last minute to the Landal Sonnenberg park in the Mosel Valley in Germany. You can read our review below!
Located on a woodland plateau above the village of Leiwen, Landal Sonnenberg has some very nice views on the Mosel Valley and wineyards in the neighbourhood.
We booked a 4 person comfort bungalow 4CE, which is very spacious and modern. We actually rate it a little bit better then the Center Parcs bungalows, because you get more value for money. (With Center Parcs you should always really try to get ahold of a coupon code to get better prices :-))
Landal Sonnenberg is beautifully located in the countryside. As such it is an excellent place to wind down and enjoy walks with your family. The complex itself also hosts a big indoor playground for small kids; together with a little restaurant where parents can enjoy a German beer or a good hamburger menu.
There is an indoor pool with gliders, toys and a small toddler pool. Your (smaller) kids will like it, but don't expect a Center Parcs subtropical swimming paradise alike experience.
Outdoors, there is also a new playground which opened in 2014 and a mini golf area. You can even go and feed the deer just at the sides of the park.
Must sees in the neighbourhood are plentifull. In spring and summertime you can take a boat trip or swim in the openair swiming pool of Leiwen.
Bernkastel-Kues is 30km away and hosts many unique timber-framed houses. 30km in the other direction along the Mosel you can find Trier, the oldest German city which still has Roman remains like the Porta Nigra and roman baths.
No visit to the Mosel would be complete, however, without sampling the localy produced Mosel wine!
